 Easter Eggs Fair, the 22nd edition

Period: 1-2 April 2023

Location: Esplanade of the Palace of Culture

Organisers: The Ethnographic Museum of Moldavia in partnership with “ART – Meșteșugurile Prutului” Association and Iași City Hall

 

The fair brought into the public’s attention the living craft of making Easter eggs. More than 10 craftswomen from different counties – Iași, Botoșani, Suceava – were invited to participate to this fair, to share their knowledge with the visitors, through demonstrations and workshops. Several other craftspeople (coming from Iași, Suceava, Botoșani and Neamț counties) exhibited icons on glass or on wood, wooden crosses, as well as wicker baskets and items made of rope.

 

 

Easter Eggs Workshops

Period: 28 March – 13 April 2023

Location: Palace of Culture – Iași

Organisers: PR, Marketing, Logistics, Projects and Programs Department within ”Moldova” National Museum Complex of Iași

The workshops are organized for groups of maximum 20 persons. Each workshop lasts ca. 90 minutes and includes a visit of the section dedicated to Easter Eggs within the permanent exhibition of the Ethnographic Museum of Moldavia.

 

Temporary exhibition: Lenten Traditions

Period: 5-23 April 2023

Location: The Museum of Vine and Wine Harlau (part of the Ethnographic Museum of Moldavia)

The exhibition emphasises two defining elements of the Easter period – the care for the departed and the craft of making Easter eggs. Thus, the display includes items in the collection of the Ethnographic Museum of Moldavia: Easter eggs specific to the areas Rădăuți and Câmpulung Moldovenesc, ornamented with vegetal colours and beeswax, with old motifs, along with religious items and specific vessels used to prepare Easter food and to give alms for the dead.
